Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region was established in 1921 and assists individuals with barriers to employment go to work by providing jobs, training, and educational opportunities. The Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region AmeriCorps team focuses on serving economically disadvantaged individuals who receive job training and other skill development services.
The REACH (Resources for Education and Career Help) Educational Aide serves with clients ages 16-24 seeking academic assistance so they can broaden their career options.
The REACH Center provides career, education, and personal development services for all young adults, ages 16-24, in the Tacoma/Pierce County area.
Essential Duties:
The role of this position is to serve one on one with young people seeking educational and case management services; while partnering with community organizations and existing REACH Center partners
The overall objective of this role is to increase academic success through consistent follow-up and alternative approaches to tutoring by using a case management model.
This person will serve closely with REACH Center staff, monitor participants’ educational activities, and organize instruction that will prepare participants for work or further education.
This person will also instruct enhancement classes.
All AmeriCorps members at Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region are required to help organize and participate in team service projects one weekend per month.
Qualifications:
Interest in working with disenfranchised young people and their families.
Interest in exploring the unique needs of disadvantaged populations.
Interest in learning about Best Practices in education, training and employment fields.
Ability to build rapport and communicate well with young people, adults, team members and center staff.
Ability to provide instruction in enhancement classes
Service Conditions:
Serving conditions are an office environment that involves serving one-on-one and in groups with both staff and students daily. The intellectual demands of the position include communicating with different individuals with different needs on a case-by-case basis daily. The use of computers, telephones, fax machines, scanners, and copiers are part of the daily duties.

Requirements:
Ability to serve full-time for 10 ½ months (from September 1, 2014 to July 15, 2015)
Serve 40 hours a week for a total of 1700 hours over the entire service term
Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
Must be 18 years of age at the start of the service term
Must pass required criminal background checks
