Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region was established in 1921 and assists individuals with barriers to employment go to work by providing jobs, training, and educational opportunities. The Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region AmeriCorps team focuses on serving economically disadvantaged individuals who receive job training and other skill development services.
The Food Services Instructional Aide assists the Culinary Skills and Youth Barista programs with job training services.
The first program, Culinary Skills Training is a 12-week course of instruction broken into 2 6-week tiers. Each training tier has a focus area which is taught and reinforced during both classroom and hands-on training. It also includes comprehensive job search training and assistance.
The second program, Youth Barista Training, takes students through the basics of espresso bar and café facility operation. The 16-week course includes both classroom and hands-on training within a café environment.
Essential Duties:
• Working one-on-one with Culinary Skills Training and Youth Barista Training program students as they learn the on-the-job training skills necessary to obtain a job in the Food Services field.
• The Food Services Instructional Aide develops and modifies instructional aides and co-facilitates the Culinary Skills Training and Youth Barista Training curriculum with whole classes or individuals via one-on-one training.
• Maintains case notes, reports, and other necessary documentation for participant files.
• Performs on-the-job training assistance in Goodwill's Neighborhood Bistro and Buzz Cafe, including Orientation and Safety Training.
• Assists with ongoing program development and tracking systems, including maintaining spreadsheets, devising program models, and curriculum development as needed.
• Will provide one-on-one resume and job application experience.
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and work within the fast-paced environment of a working kitchen.
• All AmeriCorps members at Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region are required to help organize and participate in team service projects one weekend per month.
Qualifications:
• Ability to serve as substitute instructor for students in the Culinary Skills and Youth Barista Training Programs.

• Ability to stand for extended period of time.
Service Conditions:
Service conditions are primarily a kitchen environment that involves hot and cold temperatures, a fast-paced environment, knives, food smells, etc. There is also exposure to high levels of sawdust and construction noise in the person's assigned desk area.

Requirements:
• Ability to serve full-time for 10 ½ months (from September 1, 2014 to July 15, 2015)
• Serve 40 hours a week for a total of 1700 hours over the entire service term
• Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
• Must be 18 years of age at the start of the service term
• Must pass required criminal background checks
