With the support of families like yours, Open Arms brings comfort, nutrition, and support to our fellow community members who are living with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life threatening illnesses. We do this through delivering homemade food to approximately 1,000 clients every week across the Twin Cities free of charge, using healthy ingredients.

Volunteer to deliver meals to our clients with your partner or child and help Open Arms bring nourishment to those who need it most.

  • Shifts are 1-2 hours and are between 10:45am-1:00pm Monday through Friday
  • Volunteer once, on a regular shift, or days when kids are out of school
  • No minimum age requirement for children
  • Pick the delivery route that suits you best

In return for your service, Open Arms will provide you with the opportunity to be part of a warm and giving community, with engaging and flexible volunteer opportunities, and the chance to give back in a meaningful way.

Becoming a volunteer is easy - sign up to attend an orientation - once you attend we’ll ask you to fill out a Volunteer Profile, then you will be all set to go! (It is recommended for kids middle school and older to also attend orientation but not required). Visit us at openarmsmn.org/age-requirements to submit adult and youth volunteer profiles. Questions? Contact us at volunteer@openarmsmn.org.

Mission Statement

It’s a simple notion: people who are sick should not be without food. Yet, every day, our neighbors with life-threatening illnesses find themselves unable to shop or cook -- and, often, without the support network to help. That’s where we come in. Open Arms of Minnesota is a nonprofit organization that prepares and delivers nourishing meals free of charge to critically ill Minnesotans and their loved ones. Our registered dietitians and in-house chefs create delicious, medically tailored menus using fresh and organic ingredients whenever possible. Through the support of a loving community of donors and volunteers, we harvest, cook, and deliver nutritious, made-from-scratch meals directly to our clients. At Open Arms, we believe that food is medicine, and there’s always room for one more at our table.

Description

Open Arms began as a single act of kindness in 1986 - Bill Rowe, our founder, cooking food in his apartment and delivering it to a handful of neighbors living with AIDS who had become too sick to cook for themselves.

Three decades later, our operation has grown into an organization with a state-of-the-art facilities in Minneapolis and St. Paul, which has allowed us to prepare and deliver millions of meals for thousands of clients and their loved ones. We have also since opened our arms wider to include more qualifying illnesses, such as cancer, MS, ALS, ESRD, CHF, COPD, and more.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Open Arms.

From preparing medically tailored meals in our state-of-the-art kitchen to delivering our nourishing food to our critically ill clients, every aspect of our operations is made possible because of the incredible dedication of our volunteers.

Join us in making a profound difference for our neighbors living with life-threatening illnesses. Whether you’re part of an organization or an individual wanting to make a difference, we have a wide variety of opportunities and will work with you to find the perfect fit for your skills, interests, and availability.

We have locations in both Minneapolis (2500 Bloomington Ave, Minneapolis MN 55404) and St. Paul (380 E Lafayette Frontage Rd, St. Paul MN 55107.)
