The Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula is in need of a few dedicated drivers to volunteer to deliver bags of non-perishable food to local schools once a week for nine weeks for the summer backpack program beginning June 27 and running through August 22.

Each route takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. Deliveries are made on Friday mornings to schools in the Hampton, Newport News and York County areas. This opportunity starts at 2401 Aluminum Avenue, Hampton, VA at 10:30am; delivery sites open at 11am.

Volunteer drivers are an essential component for the Backpack Program, a National program aimed at curbing food insecurity among our most vulnerable, children.

Drivers are asked to use their own vehicles. A background check is required. There is some minimal lifting involved.
