The Haven is an after-school program where children from kindergarten through fifth grade can learn and grow when school is out in the afternoon. OUR MAIN ACADEMIC FOCUS is LITERACY. We offer assistance with homework and provide opportunities for creative self-expression, while encouraging students to achieve academic success, develop healthy living habits, and engage with the community.
The Haven volunteer hours would be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 2:40 p.m. - 5:00 pm.

Description
Children and Family Urban Movement (CFUM) is a 501-C-3 non-profit organization that was incorporated in 1992, but some programs were offered pre-date that incorporation. We offer a large variety of programs for school aged youth and adults and relationships are at the heart of the work at CFUM.
In an effort to make the most of the assets present in the community, we share program and office space with Trinity United Methodist Church and Las Americas de Comunidad in Des Moines, Iowa. We are not, however, a faith-based organization. The neighborhood which we serve is one of the most ethnically and racially diverse neighborhoods in the state. The median income in the area is below poverty level.
CFUM is located on the corner of 8th Street and College Avenue directly across the street from Moulton Extended Learning Center. Enter through the red door on 8th Street and proceed down a couple steps. Our office is located immediately to the left at the bottom of the stairs.
