CAAWS is run solely by unpaid volunteers and is governed by a Board of Directors. Our Humane Education Volunteers go to elementary school classes or libraries with CAAWS dogs to teach responsible pet ownership, spay and neuter, and child safety. While o ur presentation last s approximately 30 minutes, we may talk to several classes on that day, in which case it might require up to 3 hours of your time . All teaching materials will be provided for you, and no training is necessary. You can give the presentation, assist the presenter or help with handling the CAAWS dog. This opportunity is usually done on weekday mornings so open availability is a must.

Mission Statement

The Capital Area Animal Welfare Society (CAAWS) is a non-profit organization committed to the well-being of animals in the Baton Rouge community by providing, facilitating, and promoting spay/neuter, adopting or facilitating the adoption of homeless animals, teaching the community responsible companion animal ownership and the humane treatment of animals, and at all times promoting the practice of spay/neuter.

Description

With the help of volunteers, CAAWS offers a number of services and programs that strive to promote animal welfare within the Baton Rouge community. Humane Education and companion ownership, Pet Touch Therapy, Feral Cat Program, Community Assistance Spay and Neuter Program, and Adoptions are all outstanding programs and services provided by the organization.
