ORGANIZATION: The San Diego River Park Foundation

The San Diego River Park Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the restoration of the San Diego River, has 1 opening for a Special Event Intern.

Interns are required to work 8-10 hours per week during regular business hours (9:00-5:00). Activities will include office work, potentially some off-site meetings, phone calls and visits to local businesses outside the office. Access to personal transportation is a plus. The person will report to the Development and Program Manager. Must be available to work the day and evening of September 17, 2015 for large special event.

Special Event Intern duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Assisting the Development and Program Manager with planning and coordination for the annual Anniversary Celebration on September 17, 2015.
  2. Assisting with silent auction, including soliciting donation of auction items, tracking items received, producing auction materials, and thanking donors.
  3. Update and maintain collaborative spreadsheet of auction items using Google Docs.
  4. Work with, support, and supervise special event volunteers.
  5. Assist in communications with vendors contacts.
  6. Assist in planning to meet fundraising goals for the Anniversary Celebration.

Expectations and required skills:

  1. Strong organizational and time management skills
  2. Strong written and verbal skills, clear and outgoing communicator
  3. Ability to work respectfully with business owners and donors
  4. Microsoft Office skills, especially Word and Excel
  5. Skills with graphic software (such as Adobe Illustrator or InDesign) a plus, but not required
  6. A passion for the environment and the mission of the San Diego River Park Foundation a must!

Candidates will gain real world experience in special event planning, nonprofit fundraising, auction coordination, as well as gain general office skills and experience in a professional and high profile environmental nonprofit organization.

Description

We organize many different volunteer stewardship activities each month. River Cleanups, native plant gardening, habitat restoration, volunteer leadership, water quality testing, outreach and education, special event committees, technical committees and more.
