Call for Volunteers!
We are searching for new volunteer Ambassadors to assist visitors throughout the Empire State Plaza, the New York State Capitol complex in Albany. We are managed out of the new Visitor Center & Gift Shop by New York's Office of General Services.
This is a terrific opportunity to meet people, perform a real public service and participate in an interesting and stimulating activity.
Volunteers will provide visitor assistance at the following sites:
Corning Tower 42nd Floor Observation Deck: The Corning Tower is the tallest building in the state outside of New York City, with beautiful views of the Capital Region from the 42nd floor Observation Deck. Volunteers staff the entrance to the Observation Deck, offering information and directions to visitors.
Empire State Plaza: The Empire State Plaza is a unique government complex with a world-class art collection, museum, performing arts center and more. Volunteers staff the Visitor Center and Information booths on the Concourse level of the Plaza and in the Capitol, offering directions and assistance to visitors.
Tour Guides: Tour guides lead visitors through the Capitol, the Governor’s Mansion, the Empire State Art Collection, and the Empire State Plaza. These tours are offered to the general public, school groups, and visitors from around the world.
Other opportunities may be available after earning volunteer experience.
VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE
Volunteers must be available for a minimum of one morning or afternoon per week.
"Shifts" are 10:00 a.m.--1:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m.--4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
We are flexible about vacations and other times off, but volunteers must be able to help for at least six months.
Free parking is provided!
QUALIFICATIONS
Volunteers should enjoy working with the public, have good personal skills and be comfortable with walking. You must also have a New York State ID, like a driver's license.
If you contact us we will send you a short application that you can fill out online. We will then call you to see if the program is a good fit for you. After an interview, new volunteers will work alongside other people to get used to the position.
If we do not currently have openings during times you are available, we will add you to a list of prospective Ambassadors to be contacted in the future.
