IMPACT Board and Volunteers at the Super Run!

The IMPACT Personal Safety Board of Directors is composed of leaders from the nonprofit and for-profit sector who are dedicated to the organization’s mission to prevent violence by building skills and inspiring individuals to be agents of personal, community & cultural change. Serving on the IMPACT Board of Directors is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about making our community safer and who has a track record of leadership and community involvement.

Our board members stand by our vision - that by reducing the fear and impact of violence, we help to create a community where people live powerfully, experience freedom, and pursue joy. In addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of a board member, IMPACT’s board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and are fully engaged in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for IMPACT to advance its mission.

Individual Board Member Responsibilities

Each board member is expected to know what exceptional governance is, to practice it as a board member, and to remain apprised of new developments in the governance and regulatory environment.

Board members are expected to read and understand IMPACT’s financial statements and otherwise help the board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities.

Board members are expected to attend six board meetings per year. They are expected to read board materials in advance of board meetings and come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions.

Board members are expected to serve on one or more committees of the board and to actively participate in committee work. Committees meet once a month, or bi-monthly.

Board members are expected to play an active role in securing the financial resources necessary for IMPACT to achieve its mission.

Board members are expected to leverage personal relationships and connections to help the development committee and staff identify and solicit potential funders, as well as directly invest in IMPACT’s work by making a personal contribution each year.

Board members are expected to responsibly represent IMPACT to their respective communities and to advocate for IMPACT’s mission, programs, and services as appropriate.

Location:

Mission Statement

IMPACT Personal Safety is a nonprofit organization that empowers children and adults by teaching them to prevent and defend themselves against verbal, physical, and sexual violence.

Description

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, IMPACT reaches children, teens, adults and the elderly in Northern and Central New Mexico. Conceptual seminars teach the origins of violence and how to assess risk and set boundaries for healthy relationships. Experiential classes teach hands-on interpersonal skills and strategies to prevent and stop assault. IMPACT reaches individuals and communities through partnerships with schools and other nonprofits, community groups and Pueblos, as well as classes for the public.

By reducing the fear and impact of violence, we help to create a community where people live powerfully, experience freedom, and pursue joy. We believe it is possible to tackle the causes and effects of violence by partnering within the community to:

Raise Personal Expectations:
Increasing self-worth, enhancing relationships, and promoting trauma recovery.

Promote Social Justice:
Teaching students to recognize and confront oppression.

Empower Communication:
Training individuals to advocate for themselves and others.

Improve Awareness:
Providing skills to recognize and avoid conflict and violence.

Teach Physical Skills:
Teaching self-defense strategies to address boundary violation and prevent assault.
