Heroes in Action (HIA) seeks a volunteer to serve as our Coordinator for The Heroes 5k. Under the leadership of the Board of Directors, the 5k Coordinator will embrace the value of helping police officers, firefighters and military veterans by managing the annual fun run event.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Seeks out potential event spaces.
2. Issues proposals to event sites.
3. Selects venue and coordinates support services.
4. Coordinates, plans and organizes run activities, vendors and logistics.
5. Recruits volunteers to assist in run operations.
6. Provides feedback to improve the event each year.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
1. Volunteer development.
2. Contract negotiation.
3. Budgeting.
4. Responsible in carrying out a vision.
5. Working with external parties to accomplish events.

EXPERIENCE:
Coordinator should have experience in event planning and building volunteer teams. Multitasking, time management, able to communicate vision verbally and written. Be able to recruit people to a vision and get staff excited to participate as well. Coordinator will constantly be reevaluating what has been done and make changes as necessary to meet the needs of our growing organization.

JOB FUNCTION:
Marketing, Public Affairs

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:
Volunteer: 4-5 hours per week. Slightly higher when events are occurring.
