Volunteers are needed to lead small Mentoring Groups (4 girls in a group) that will focus on reading literacy and fluency for girls 6-14 years of age who have been identified through assessments as needing extra support. The goal is that girls will improve their reading comprehension and or at least maintain the progress that they gained over the academic school year.

Reading Clubs will begin the week of June 16 and meet from 8:30 - 9:30am at one of four Girls Inc. campuses on a weekday of the volunteer’s choosing.

A minimum of 20 Volunteers are needed to commit to lead a group for 7 weeks.

Responsibilities:

During Reading Club, mentors will:

o Facilitate a Read Aloud

o Facilitate a small group discussion

o Ask girls to read independently

o Discuss vocabulary, character and story development

o Review readings

o Help girls write a book report

Girls Inc. of Metropolitan Dallas will provide a one hour orientation/training for volunteers.
