The Organization

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation's blood; teaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a not-for-profit organization that depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission.

The Internship

The American Red Cross offers exceptional undergraduate and graduate students unpaid internship opportunities at our Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, D.C. and in chapters across the country through our Summer Internship Program. Interns are matched with a specific department where they work on advancing critical projects.

The overall aim of the program is to attract a pool of diverse, skilled, enthusiastic young professionals and provide them with an opportunity to build a long-term, substantive relationship with the Red Cross.

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate students who have completed at least their sophomore year; currently pursuing a degree in Graphic Design.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with a demonstrated ability to accomplish multiple task and meet deadlines
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and strong internet search capability
    • Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop required; Fireworks or Dreamweaver optional
    • Intern will need to provide their own Mac laptop and software.

Our marketing department is looking for a Creative Resources/Graphic Design Intern that will provide support to the Creative Resources design team. This role will provide the opportunity to work across our lines of service to promote the Red Cross mission and a strong understanding of the Red Cross brand.

The Creative Resources/Graphic Design Intern, will:

  • Learn and maintain the visual identity standards of the Red Cross brand
  • Assist with the design and execution of marketing collateral including flyers, brochures, event materials, ads, web banners and more
  • Make changes/updates to existing creative to meet client needs for customized one-off requests
  • Contribute creative concepts during initial phase of design
  • Assist with photo searches in the Red Cross photo archive library
  • Support design team with other duties as needed

Description

The national headquarters of the American Red Cross provides assistance with shaping and leading the organization in our mission and strategic plan. National Headquarters also assists with technical guidance to the many Red Cross units, such as Chapters, Armed Forces Emergency Services Stations and Blood Services regions. These units are responsible for the direct service to the community including disaster response and preparedness, messaging to Armed Forces military and their families, collecting and delivering blood products, teaching health and safety skills and helping reunite families through our international services.
