We need Buddy Volunteers who are between 10-18 years old to be on the field and to assist the special needs athlete learn the skill. We also need Adult Volunteers who are over the age of 18 years who have passed a background check that we pay for. The Adult Volunteer works with the coach and the buddy to ensure that the athlete is getting the most out of the session as possible. All Volunteers receive training and a manual as well as voluteer hours. The season is only 6 weeks long and only one hour per team. We also provide Volunteer Recognition. Adult Volunteers DO NOT have to run after the athlete, that is what Buddies are for. Buddies are not allowed to actually score or kick the ball. They are there to assist the athlete in learning the skill. The athletes so enjoy all the interaction. We are also looking for Coaches but you have to know about kickball or have coached anothet sport.

Mission Statement

To provide the special needs population and their families a safe and nurturing environment in which special needs professionals and athletic professionals will educate, encourage and assist those with unique needs in all aspects of athletic competition.

Description

Exceptional Kids Athletics Inc provides special needs athletic programs specifically designed to meet the needs of children aged 4-18 with physical and/or mental disabilities and is a charitablei non-profit 501 (C)3 organization. Our program is geared toward athlete development rather than competition. Our staff consists of Soccer Coaches (former soccer professionals, current soccer coaches, and other types of coaches) who will educate the athlete about soccer. There will be adult volunteers who either work specifically with the special needs population (OT, PT, ST, Special Education Teachers and Paraprofessionals, or other parents of special need children) or who will be trained on how to interact with the athlete's disability. Their parents will be able to sit in the stands and enjoy the game. The athlete will also be assigned a soccer "buddy" if requested by the parent or at the discretion of the special needs staff. This will be a student volunteer whose only job will be to work with the athlete on the field under the direction of the Coaching Staff and the Special Education staff, again so that the parents can enjoy the game. Each session in only one hour long and played on Sundays. THere is no practice during the week. The games are played at Rhodes Jordan Park in Lawrenceville GA. All coaches, adult and buddy volunteers receive a manual for each of their areas. The parents also receive a manual on what to expect. Anyone over the age of 18 years old is required to pass a background check that is funded by Exceptional Kids Athletics Inc. No one is allowed on the field near the athletes without passing a background check.
