Purpose:
Conversion of historical disaster documents to an electronic format

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess documentation that is collected from the field in regards to Disasters
  • Develop a plan for digital archiving of Disaster Relief Operations documents from paper to electronic
  • Research best practices for conversion
  • Design a proposal that includes job scope, timelines, cost of software
  • Develop a plan for digital archiving of Disaster Relief Operations documents from paper to electronicare or additional costs.
  • Implement a sampling of what is proposed
  • Evaluate feasability / effectiveness

Qualifications:

  • Customer service skills: face to face and phone
  • Verbal and written skills are critical
  • Technical capabilities, comfortable with computer systems
  • Data gatherer, comfortable asking questions
  • Independent worker
  • Operates with integrity, trust, ethics and values


Length of Appointment:Summer Volunteer, can lead into a Fall Semester Volunteer position; Contingent on coverage needs

Time Commitment: We are a 24 hour operations center 7 days a week. Shifts can be negotiated although work day is 8:00-5:00pm weekdays

Development Opportunities: Ability to learn and understand types of information gathered from a disaster response that can help inform services provided to the impacted communities.

Description

The national headquarters of the American Red Cross provides assistance with shaping and leading the organization in our mission and strategic plan. National Headquarters also assists with technical guidance to the many Red Cross units, such as Chapters, Armed Forces Emergency Services Stations and Blood Services regions. These units are responsible for the direct service to the community including disaster response and preparedness, messaging to Armed Forces military and their families, collecting and delivering blood products, teaching health and safety skills and helping reunite families through our international services.
