ORGANIZATION: Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Orange County

Serve as a mentor and advocate to one child in the foster care system. Interact with all the professionals on the case and make recommendations directly to the court. Volunteers spend 10-15 hours a month with a CASA child for a minimum of 2 years. All volunteers complete 30 hours of court-mandated training provided by CASA.

On any given day in Orange County, there are nearly 2,500 children who have been removed from their parents' care and placed in out-of-home care due to abuse or neglect. CASA is a nonprofit organization that matches caring volunteers with these children. Through mentorship and advocacy, volunteers are role models who provide consistency and give the children a voice in court. The unique one-on-one relationship that forms between the volunteer and dependent child is often the only stable, positive relationship the child has. In a sea of social workers, attorneys, therapists and caregivers, it's the court appointed volunteer who is a consistent and caring friend and advocate for the child. Our volunteers and staff are every day heroes who have the passion and commitment to positively influence the lives of these very special kids - one child at a time. CASA is currently listed as the Best Place to Volunteer in Orange County.
