Is preserving and protecting nature important to you?

Are you creative?

Do you like to share ideas?

Are you reliable?

If you answer "Yes!" to any 3 of these questions, you are a welcome addition to the Thelma Gilmur Education Committee. Thelma Gilmur, a founding mother of Tahoma Audubon, supported high-quality, mission driven environmental education programs. Thelma believed in following your passion and finding joy in nature, and the committee honors her vision through its many existing projects:

  • Youth Bird Drawing Contest
  • Habitat restoration at local parks
  • Native Plant projects
  • Little Sprouts and Budding Scientists education
  • Summer day camps
  • Birding classes
  • Nature and Meditation walks with Yoga Wild
  • Poetry in the Park
  • Great Backyard Bird Count in February
  • Christmas Bird Count and the Tally Dinner in December
  • Nature Book Clubs
Opportunities for participation in these programs are part of being an education committee member. You can have as much involvement as your time allows. Watching young children discovering nature brings joy to us all. Pulling long stretches of invasive English ivy from trees and brush gives satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. Our work is interesting, worthwhile, and FUN! You’ll meet friendly, welcoming Audubon
members who care about our world. If you enjoy nature and have a passion for environmental education,
volunteer for the Thelma Gilmur Education Committee at Tahoma Audubon Society.

The committee meets via Zoom on the 2nd Tuesday each month at 3:00 - 4:30 pm.
