We are currently looking to add to our team of volunteer Kennel Assistants. Our Kennel Assistants take care of our short-term fosters who are often also senior. The visiting fosters are treated like our own resident pups during their stay.
The Kennel Assistant duties include:
* Tidy up the kennel area, making sure it always looks great, a place that shows our pride.
* Ensure each dog has clean bedding & fresh water.
* Play with the dogs by throwing balls & toys.
* Wash breakfast/dinner bowls & set up for the next meal.
* Some 'poop scooping’.
We need several Kennel Assistants who can come once a week for either a morning or evening shift. The shift may take a couple of hours depending on the number of short term visitors.
The morning shift runs in the 8am to 10am time-slot and the evening shift usually runs in the 6pm to 8pm slot.
Experience with dogs is a MUST and the volunteer should be confident and eager to handle dogs, big or small.

Mission Statement
The House with a Heart Pet Sanctuary mission is to provide senior and special needs pets with a loving and caring home where they will be allowed to live out their lives in a secure, nurturing environment. We provide residents with a comfortable, bright, and spotless home environment. They play in secure outdoor yards and spend supervised time in fenced, grassy fields on the two-acre property. Healthcare and wellness screening are ongoing, with veterinary specialists consulted when needed. Pets receive special diets, as necessary, and are fed high-quality foods and treats.
Description
In 2006, Sher Polvinale and her late husband, Joe, created a senior pet sanctuary in their home. Sanctuary residents are dogs who have lost their families and homes through no fault of their own. Because of their advanced age and various medical conditions, they have little chance of being adopted.
House with a Heart is not a foster home orrescue group. Once a dog becomes a resident, it has a loving home for life. Our Director, Sher devotes herself full-time to caring for the pets and maintaining and improving the Sanctuary.
HWAH is supported by volunteers from Montgomery County and the surrounding Metro areas that walk, bathe, and care for the residents, as well as clean and maintain the house and two-acre property.
