Importance of Position: vital role in ensuring that documents are organized and up to date in our files, as well as updating our data base, and other administrative tasks assigned by staff members.

Qualifications: basic Excel spreadsheet knowledge and skills, organized and responsible, task-oriented, able to work with long-term data-entry projects.

Responsibilities: Entering data, Filing documents, Assisting staff with any projects assigned

Training Provided: IU overview, Tenant’s basic legal rights, Usage of Excel spreadsheet & Database system, Proper assortment and organization of documents

Benefits of Volunteering: Great small office setting, Gain work experience in the non-profit community organization sector, Learn to manage basic office skills and tasks, Ensure that tenants have a better quality of life and are living in safe and habitable conditions.

Time Commitment: 3hrs/week on selected week day

Length of Commitment: 6 months or 1 full semester

Grounds for Termination: breach of tenant privacy, improper office behavior, lack of commitment to shift time and assigned duties, low work performance

IU is one of the leading housing advocacy groups in Los Angeles and one of the few organizations serving the vulnerable low-income working class families of the Pico-Union, Westlake/Macarthur Park, Koreatown, and Mid-Wilshire neighborhoods of Los Angeles. Each year, IU helps more than 7,500 tenants and families through its innovative integration of education, advocacy, and community organizing. These strategies work in concert to empower low-income families with the tools and resources to improve their housing conditions, safeguard their housing rights, and avoid homelessness.
