BEST Kids Mentoring Program is hosting a guitar workshop called Discover Your Sound, a program designed to offer music lessons to strengthen relationships between youth and their mentors through learning to play an instrument together.
We are looking for local musicians who are willing to volunteer their time and expertise to teach youth how to play guitar, along with their mentors. You will be teaching a beginners level class, so we are looking for people who at the very least know basic guitar chords and methods. Volunteer instructors will teach the class every other week, on the dates as followed: Oct 3, Oct 17, Nov 7, and Nov 14. Classes times are being solidified, but will either be from 6:30-7:30 pm or 6:30- 8:00 pm, depending. You will be notified before hand on the length. The class duration will be 4 weeks with virtual lessons on the off-weeks that do not have in-person courses. The location the classes will be taught is metro accessible in Southeast DC (Eastern Market), but also has plenty of free street parking available.
Please check out the program webpage at http://www.bestkids.org/discover-your-sound.html for more information about both organizations collaborating on this program.
Contact Dana Staley, BEST Kids Program Director at 202-554-0545 or via email at dana@bestkids.org if you are interested in volunteering and would like to learn more.
