What is Cooking Matters
Cooking Matters’
cooking-based nutrition education classes are powered by volunteers and their passion for the communities we serve. Each class is built around a hands-on cooking lesson designed to teach the basics of healthy eating, nutrition, cooking, food safety, and food budgeting. Our program is hybrid, meaning you can volunteer in person or virtually depending on the class.

Nutrition Instructor Description:
Nutrition instructors are usually either graduates of or enrolled in a dietetics program, or have at least two years experience working in nutrition or dietetics.

Class Details: Courses are one time events or six weeks long, with classes meeting once per week. Nutrition Instructors are needed for three hours each week. The classes are hosted by partner sites in Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, and Wayne counties.

Training: All NEW volunteers must attend a training class at Gleaners Community Food Bank before volunteering.

Interest: Once you submit your interest form on VolunteerMatch, we will reach out to you with more details.
