Eager readers, and anyone who enjoys working with children, are invited to become a part of the Reach Out and Read program at the Lake County Health Department and Community Health Center. Reach Out and Read is a national, non-profit organization that promotes early literacy by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud.
Volunteers have an important role in the clinic setting by reading books to children while they wait for appointments. This helps encourage children and their parents to read or share books at home. They show how reading can be fun for children and their families, and they help establish a foundation for a lifetime love of reading.
This listing is for volunteer opportunities, for those 16 and older, in Highland Park. Most volunteers commit to 1-2 hours per week, but volunteers are welcome on a monthly or bi-weekly basis, as well.
