Organization and event background: At After School Matters, we operate our out-of-school-time programs based on an Apprenticeship Model, in which teens learn marketable skills in a professional atmosphere from industry experts. Apprenticeships mirror real jobs in many ways. Prospective teen apprentices must fill out applications, interview with After School Matters staff, and maintain professional standards of attendance, conduct, and dedication. The professional concepts developed in these programs provide teens with the maturity and knowledge to enter the workforce.

The first of our Summer Interview Sessions, which will help us select and place teens in programs for our Summer Cycle, is being held on May 9th.

Volunteer Role: Volunteers at the Summer Interview Sessions will greet teens as they come in, staff the registration table, help teens locate their specific interview rooms, and run interview sheets from program to program.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Must feel comfortable interacting with teens, staff, parents, and other volunteers
  • Must be able to stand and/or walk for duration of shift

Volunteer Shift: Saturday, May 9th: 10:30am to 1:30pm

Event Location: Gallery 37 Center for the Arts - 66 East Randolph Street, Chicago, IL 60601.
