Engage. Evolve. Explore. Inspire.

Our hospice volunteers bring companionship into the lives of patients and families during a time when many loved ones do not know how to deal with their own emotions. Although nothing more can be done to cure the patient, there is no limit to what can be done to make them as comfortable as possible, and to provide both the patient and their family with the help and support they need as the journey of life comes to an end.

Capital Caring is currently seeking dedicated, compassionate Volunteers to provide much needed socialization, companionship, and support to our hospice patients at Malta House who have limited opportunities to interact with individuals other than staff members.

As a Patient Care Volunteer, you have the opportunity to bring laughter, smiles, and joy to these patients through the simplest of actions. You could make a positive impact on someone's life just by spending a couple hours of your time with an incredible person, all the while hearing interesting life experiences and getting to know someone fascinating . Whether you are reading a book, playing board games, engaging in conversations, listening to music, attending facility activities, or sitting quietly as a presence, the time you have taken out of your day to visit this patient is truly a priceless gift that is cherished. The methods that you choose to provide interactions with the patient you are visiting is entirely up to you - we encourage that you share your special talents with our wonderful patients!

Our Volunteer Department strives to best match our volunteers with our hospice patients, carefully considering the personal preferences of both the volunteer and the patient to ensure that there are common interests between the two. Among many other benefits, we offer all of our patient care volunteers mileage reimbursement of .50 cents/mile, accidental insurance coverage, liability insurance coverage, Hospice, Palliative Care, and End-of-Life Education Trainings, Patient Care Trainings, and continuous opportunities for educational in-services.

The only thing we ask for in return is to provide at least 6 hours per month of patient care visits to give the patient and their family the respect and attention they deserve. As a patient care volunteer visiting a facility that is open 7 days a week with flexible visiting hours, the scheduling of your visits is entirely on your own terms and minimal coordination is required, allowing you to visit patients at times that are convenient for your own schedule.

If you are interested in learning more about this rewarding opportunity as one of our trained hospice volunteers, please contact our Volunteer Services Coordinator, Allison Kuchar, at (301)808-5668 or through email at akuchar@ capitalcaring.org
