Green Lakes is looking for volunteers for Citizen FORCES (Friends of Recreation, Conservation, & Environmental Stewardship). These volunteers will assist with a variety of projects at Green Lakes State Park, from removing invasive species to helping out with interpretive programs. Specifically, we are in great need of volunteers to help us remove invasive species throughout the summer and fall. Citizen FORCES volunteers enrich the park programs, strengthen our conservation efforts, and make our community better!

The mission of the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is to provide safe and enjoyable recreational and interpretive opportunities for all New York State residents and visitors and to be responsible stewards of our valuable natural, historic and cultural resources.
Description
Green Lakes State Park's outstanding features are its two glacial lakes surrounded by upland forest. Both Round and Green Lakes are meromictic lakes, which means that there is no fall and spring mixing of surface and bottom waters. Such lakes have a high potential for evidence of ancient plant and animal life.
The park is also home to a growing Bird Conservation Area, which reaches from the Old Growth forest above Round Lake to the actively managed grassland area in the western end of the park.
This unique park also contains an 18-hole golf course, camping grounds, a disc golf course and a swim beach that is open during the summer season. In addition to providing access to these recreation opportunities, Green Lakes staff provide year round programming for park patrons and lead educational and conservation efforts to better understand and manage the great natural resources at Green Lakes State Park.
