L.A. Works

If you have experience designing and building websites, particularly using Wordpress, this project is for you! Use your valuable skills to help out one of our nonprofit partners! The Boys and Girls Clubs of East LA provide after school tutoring, sports, arts, music and mentor programs to over 4,500 youth in East Los Angeles, Montebello, Commerce and surrounding areas, and they need help optimizing their website to help deliver those programs.

The BGCELA has a Wordpress site, and were the beneficiary of a Taproot Foundation grant that helped with its design and left them with a style guide for their online presence. However, they haven’t been able to update the site in some time and they need someone to bring it up to date and show their part time IT helpers how to keep it there. They also want to make it easier for volunteers to sign up online and to optimize their site for mobile use, as many of those they serve have access to the internet solely or primarily via smartphones.

This is a deep-dive-type project, and as a volunteer you will work one-on-one as a coach with this organization to help them choose and implement a solution that fits into their strategic plan for serving the community. After an initial meeting to decide on the right solution for the organization and scope the project, we’ll turn you loose to apply your expertise to building BGCELA’s capacity to serve those in need!
