Summary: Looking for a fun way to get out of the house and connect with people? Or looking for an opportunity to do something meaningful? You can do both: Join CIL's Outreach Team! We are looking for a team of 4-8 volunteers who can help staff the CIL outreach table at community events like Juneteenth, Solano Stroll, and Art and Soul. Outreach team members will also assist the Outreach Coordinator with outreach preparation, events, and follow-up as directed.

Description of Organization: The Center for Independent Living is a non-profit organization that helps people of disabilities live self-determined lives by providing services, support, and advocacy. Outreach is crucial to letting people in the community who would benefit from CIL services know about the free opportunities available to them. Outreach also allows potential donors to hear about how CIL changes lives, thus extending CIL’s lifetime. Be a part of helping CIL help others by joining the Outreach Team!

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Research and maintain potential outreach targets or events;

  • Assist Outreach Coordinator with preparation of outreach materials;

  • Assess the need for outreach materials and assist coordinator in maintaining proper supply;

  • Effectively communicate CIL programs to general public at outreach events;

  • Conduct follow-up as directed by Outreach Coordinator;

    Qualifications

  • Willingness to follow instructions and carry out directed tasks.

  • Effective communication with the community at-large.

  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Availability to work some weekdays but mostly weekends.

  • Must be able to transport oneself to outreach events.

Founded in 1972, The Center for Independent Living (CIL) is the world’s first independent living center - a national leader in helping people with disabilities live independently and make choices about their own lives.

CIL provides services to people with all disabilities in Alameda and West Contra Costa counties.

In 2012, CIL staff provided direct services to 1,000 people with disabilities, gave tens of thousands more information and referral resources, and conducted over 50 trainings and workshops.
