Volunteers needed to support our Memory Cafe this summer.
The Memory Cafe is a welcoming place for people with dementia and their care partners.
Volunteers are needed to help with set up and serving drinks to cafe guests, but most importantly to socialize and chat with guests.
The Memory Cafe will meet this summer from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. on:
Friday, June 6,
Friday, July 11, and
Friday, August 1.
Volunteers can attend as many or as few as they are able.
Volunteers will receive an orientation on dementia and the Cafe prior to volunteering.
This is the first community-based, intergenerational Memory Cafe in Massachusetts, and it is part of a growing international movement to open up public spaces where people with dementia can utilize and stretch their enduring capacities, feel safe, and connect with others.
The Cafe does not focus on the disease. Guests are welcome to talk about it or not. Rather, the Cafe is carefully structured to promote the comfort and involvement of guests at all levels of disease progression - and then the focus is on having fun and being together. Guest artists share their work each month and lead participatory experiences.

Mission Statement
Jewish Family & Children's Service (JF&CS) cares for individuals and families by providing exceptional human service and health care programs, guided by Jewish traditions of social responsibility, compassion, and respect for all members of the community.
Description
For almost 150 years, Jewish Family & Children's Service has been the safety net for over 30,000 individuals and families in 80 Greater Boston communities. Since its inception, the focus of JF&CS has been to support our friends and neighbors through difficult life transitions and times of personal crisis, offering programs and services for every stage of life.
JF&CS is especially responsive to the needs of vulnerable members of our community: newborns and their parents, individuals with development disabilities or persistent mental illness, families at risk and the frail elderly. What makes our continuum of programs unique is our steadfast dedication to caring not only for the physical and economic health of individuals and families, but also for their emotional and spiritual well-being.
JF&CS is always ready to respond, no matter how difficult the problem and regardless of a person's background or ability to pay.
