Braille is a tactile code of dots on a page that blind people use to read and write effectively. Research has demonstrated that blind people who know and use this code have higher rates of employment, self-confidence, and general social integration. Yet, only ten percent of blind children are receiving instruction in Braille in the public schools. Additionally, there are not enough programs to teach Braille to blind adults. There is a need to move quickly to reverse this trend and establish stronger literacy programs--the NFB DOT DASH, a 6K to advance Braille literacy, is one means of ensuring that we do not leave these blind people behind. Come help us get every blind person to the literacy finish line! https://nfb.org/dot-dash

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Call out mile markers (for blind and sighted runners)
  • Serve as course monitors
  • Cheer on the runners as they cross the finish line!
