This one is the Youth Garden Steward or assistant garden steward
This person will be in charge of all aspects of the garden. Our Millcreek area garden is approximately 1/2 -3/4 acres in size. Most if not all of the garden will be covered in weed barrier so weeding should be very minimal. However, watering will be a big deal.
The garden steward's responsibilities will include:
Organizing volunteers into teams to take on different aspects of the garden such as assigning a row or crop to a family or individual
Overseeing large groups of people during big volunteer days
Attending to all the gardens needs through proper delegation, communication and follow up
They will also be expected to toil along with all the other volunteers.
Time requirement should be anticipated to be around 5 hours a week at the garden and additional time from home coordinating others.
Ideal GS will:
Have car and be able to drive to garden
Be responsible and make a summer long commitment. (Vacations are understandable)
Be a Jr or Sr in High School
Be able to delegate to others and empower others to learn new talents
Be willing to take instruction and advice from others.
Have an interest in organic gardening and healthy diet habits
