Livingston Bay is a 10 acre pocket estuary in Port Susan Bay and is located on the eastern shore of Camano Island. Currently the pocket estuary is surrounded by a dike that blocks all tidal influence to the site. The Nature Conservancy is planning a restoration project to restore the connection to Port Susan Bay by breaching the dike. The restored pocket estuary will provide critical habitat for juvenile Chinook and myriad other wildlife species.
The work that we’ll accomplish includes beach cleanup, removal of a silt fence that was left over from construction and Scotch broom removal. There is quite a bit of garbage along the beach at this site that gets washed up from the bay. After construction of the restoration project a silt fence was left in place. The fence is no longer needed and we’d like to have it removed. Additionally spring time is the best time to start pulling Scotch broom before if flowers and goes to seed. The site is sandy which makes the pulling easy!
