WHAT DOES A NORMAL DAY LOOK LIKE FOR A DOCENT & PRESENTER?

  • Making the visitors experience at Discovery Center of Idaho one of a kind
  • Presenting Science Samplers - demonstrations, hands on activities, or experiments that highlight some of the scientific themes and topics being displayed
  • Engaging with visitors, explaining scientific concepts, and working together with guests to discuss and understand exhibits
  • Floor maintenance as needed and making sure exhibits are in tip top shape
  • Answering questions and providing information on our programs and events

DOCENT & PRESENTER REQUIREMENTS

  • Docents are required to volunteer at least once every other week
  • Must attend 1 training on new themes, topics, and curriculums every month
  • Engage visitors and know how to have a good time

Description

We are growing our regular floor volunteer team and we are looking for enthusiastic learners, educators, and all those interested in continuing to learn about science, technology, engineering and math.We are looking for volunteers interested in helping six to twelve hours a month on a regular day and time that fits your schedule.

Volunteers at the Discovery Center of Idaho:

  • Encourage: diversity and inclusion
  • Represent: Discovery Center of Idaho and our mission both in and beyond our galleries
  • Grow: in their personal STEM knowledge and encourage growth of STEM understanding in the community.

They are teachers, stay-at-home parents, students, retired engineers and more. You don’t have to be an expert to be a volunteer-if you are passionate about STEM, and love talking with and helping others, we’d love to have you.
