Docent guides inspire visitors to engage with works of art to enhance the visitor experience. Important skills needed for this volunteer position are patience, respect for all people, and the ability to connect quickly and communicate effectively with our audiences. Docent guides represent a public face of our Museum and help provide a welcoming and meaningful experience for our public.

The docent guide training program consists of two years of Monday-morning classes (September-May). Classes will focus on techniques for touring with all age groups and training in the art collection areas of the Museum. Our training tools prepare docents to connect in meaningful ways with our visitors, and to encourage visitor dialogue through lively conversation and a wide range of gallery activities.

Once training is completed, docents are required to conduct a minimum of 25 tours per year.
