You can provide patients and caregivers with timely information, help and support as they manage their cancer journey. No experience is necessary!
All you need is a warm heart, a desire to give back and some free time!
We provide training and support for volunteers, who are typically:
• Assertive and able to approach people
• Interested in helping others in a very tangible, direct manner
• Comfortable working with cancer patients and caregivers
• Able to work with minimal supervision and instructions
• Available to volunteer on a regular basis
• Willing to complete necessary training
In addition to helping patients and caregivers, volunteer opportunities include:
• Volunteer recruitment, mentoring and scheduling
• Scheduling, coordinating and conducting volunteer training
• Promotion of Center to community and health care professionals
• General operations and data collection
The Cancer Resource Center is a free program offered by the American Cancer Society and Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
