ORGANIZATION: ACCEL

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

ACCEL is looking for volunteers to work with our students and adult clients on arts and crafts projects. ACCEL (Arizona Centers for Comprehensive Education and Life Skills) is a private, nonprofit organization for children with special needs, ages 5-22, and adults 18 and over. We are located at 35 th Avenue and Peoria. We serve over 250 students with severe autism and multiple disabilities on behalf of 39 school districts and we have one of the largest adult services programs in the Valley.

We are hoping to find individuals who like to do various types of arts and crafts including scrapbooking, painting, embroidery, screen printing, ceramics, sewing and woodworking, just to name a few.

In addition, we are looking for volunteers to join small groups of young adults with disabilities and their supervisors in various activities, to give them opportunities to practice interacting with new people they meet. Many of our clients interact almost exclusively with family members and ACCEL staff persons, and as we all know, interacting with new people we meet is different. Our adults need to practice casual conversation in order to learn appropriate topics and basic conversation etiquette.

Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday for morning and afternoon sessions. Volunteers will need to complete and application and background check prior to volunteering.

If you think this is something your members would be interested in, I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with you. Please feel free to call or email at 602-926-7210 x311 or dbogart@accel.org .

Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you.
