PURPOSE OF JOB: Provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere to field trip visitors while facilitating efficient group check-in procedures. Duties include greeting, unloading, checking-in, distributing self-guided program materials, orienting visitors, and assisting with storage of lunches and personal belongings. Training provided.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Greet and interact with field trip visitors (including students, teachers, and parents) in a welcoming, friendly, inviting, and professional manner;
• Assist with school group unloading and check-in procedures including collecting and processing payments and capturing attendance counts;
• Distribute self-guided program materials;
• Convey general visitor information, program information, and field trip guidelines to all participants;
• Orient visitors to the site, including program locations, restrooms, and lunch facilities;
• Rove the site during educational programs, ensuring program execution, visitor safety, and compliance with site guidelines. Employ biological artifacts and other educational tools while roving to engage visitors;
• Collect and inventory program materials at the conclusion of self-guided field trips.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be aged 18 or older
• Clean background check
• Comfort and ability to communicate clearly with diverse groups of people
• Previous customer service experience or experience working with students and teachers (preferred)
• Cash handling and point-of-sale experience preferred

TIME COMMITMENT REQUIRED:

• Shift duration: 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM, shifts are available Tuesday through Friday
• May through October (volunteers are accepted year-round)
• Preferred commitment is one or more shifts per week
