About Samaritan Ministry of Greater Washington

Location:

Mission Statement

Samaritan Ministry is a community partnership bringing together homeless people and others in need in Greater Washington with support and volunteers from Episcopal and other churches in a joint effort to improve the lives of all. Samaritan Ministry pursues this goal by promoting awareness of community needs, fostering partnership at all levels, breaking down barriers imposed by poverty, and developing participants' abilities to help themselves to better lives.

Description

Samaritan Ministry is a non-profit community organization, with two locations in the District of Columbia and one in Northern Virginia. Samaritan Ministry is dedicated to helping people who are homeless or in danger of becoming so, help themselves make changes in their lives. Samaritan Ministry provides opportunities for volunteers to participate in this work. Samaritan Ministry uses a unique approach known as Next Step self-sufficiency counseling. Participants, with the help of Samaritan Ministry caseworkers, set for themselves a series of manageable, specific tasks toward their life improvement goals. Participants then fulfill these with the support of each step. Participants normally fall into two categories: those seeking jobs and those seeking social services necessary for self-sufficiency.
