Want to be an integral part of the Accokeek Foundation's Ecosystem Farm team this year? Volunteer on Tuesday mornings from 9 AM to 12 PM and become a Volunteer Farm Assistant! Volunteer Farm Assistants will work alongside Farmer Holli to help with all of the tasks that keep the farm running-from weeding and watering, to maintaining farm structures and equipment. We are looking for dedicated volunteers who are able to attend on a weekly basis, are interested in gardening and growing food, and are enthusiastic about working in the dirt in varying weather conditions. Mission Statement
According to the Foundation's 1957 charter, "It shall be the purpose of this Corporation to preserve, protect and foster, for scientific, educational or charitable use and study for the benefit of the people of the nation, the historical sites and relics, trees, plants, and wildlife rapidly disappearing from an area of great natural beauty along the Maryland shore of the historic Potomac River."
Description
In partnership with the National Park Service, the Accokeek Foundation stewards 200 acres of Piscataway Park. Situated directly across the Potomac River from George Washington’s Mount Vernon, this land was protected to preserve historic views and now serves as an outdoor classroom for educational programs about land conservation, historic preservation, sustainable agriculture, and environmental stewardship. Entertaining tours and performances, customized experience based activities, and service learning opportunities help visitors connect to the land and to one another.
