Position description: Assist Program Managers and Case Managers with direct service to clients and administrative tasks to support employment seeking, job development and documentation/reporting.
Impact of opportunity: The Employment Services Volunteer will support the mission of the International Institute of Connecticut’s resettlement services to refugees and to clients in the Survivors of Torture program. Many of these clients arrive in Bridgeport with few possessions and often have suffered trauma and loss of family members. The volunteer will work with IICONN staff to assist our clients as they begin a new life here, in particular by assisting them become self-sufficient through employment.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist refugees with all aspects of job seeking:
- Create resumes
- Assist with Job Club sessions
- Work with clients on application submissions
- Prepare clients for, and, as available, transport clients to interviews
Assist Program Manager/Employment Specialist with Job Development, seeking new opportunities for employment of our clients through outreach to area employers
Assist with development of or partnering with other agencies for special training opportunities.
Assist the refugee resettlement program with necessary documentation, record-keeping and reporting of employment efforts

IICONN offers a variety of services and programs to achieve its mission, including but not limited to Immigration Counseling, Refugee Resettlement, Employment & Training, assistance to victims of Human Trafficking, Interpreter/Translation Services, Pro Bono Court Representation, English as a Second Language and Community Education & Training. Our targeted client population includes immigrants, refugees, asylees, and victims of human trafficking. In addition, we provide support and services to employers and other community service providers.
