Senior volunteers contribute billions of hours of service in their communities. In fact, older adults who volunteer typically donate more hours in a year than other age groups. Volunteers not only help their community, but also experience health benefits and enjoy an improved sense of wellbeing. Join the Roanoke Valley Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and make a lasting difference. Membership is free and open to everyone age 55 or older. Current Roanoke Valley RSVP sites include: Meals on Wheels -- volunteers deliver a hot, nutritious lunch Monday through Friday to homebound seniors CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams) -- groups of volunteers are trained in disaster preparedness and emergency response Council of Community Services -- volunteers are trained to help nonprofit agencies to improve their services. RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) is part of Senior Corps, a network of national service programs that provides older Americans the opportunity to apply their life experience to meeting community needs.
Description
RSVP volunteers serve in a diverse range of nonprofit organizations, public agencies, and faith-based groups. Among other activities, they deliver meals to homebound seniors, help prepare their community for times of disaster, and lend their business skills to community groups that provide critical social services.
