The Huntington's Disease Society of America is looking for volunteers to help out on the day of our Chattanooga, TN Team Hope Walk (Saturday, September 13th, 2014). We are looking for volunteers who are interested in helping out on the day of the event with sign in, registration, handing out t-shirts, manning booths, and providing general support. Team Hope Walks are fundraising events put on by HDSA in local communities across the country. People sign up to walk, fundraise, and raise awareness about Huntington's disease, a degenerative, fatal brain disorder. Find out more at www.hdsa.org/thwchattanooga!

Description

Huntington's Disease (HD) is an inherited, progressively degenerative brain disorder that results in a loss of both mental faculties and physical control. Symptoms usually appear in an individual between 30-50 years of age and progress over a 10-25 year period. HD affects the individuals ability to think, speak and walk. Ultimately, the weakened individual succumbs to pneumonia, heart failure or other complications. Presently, there is no effective treatment or cure. Although medications can relieve some symptoms in certain individuals, research has yet to find a means of conquering or even slowing the deadly progression of HD.
