DUFFY'S ARRIVAL...
Just seconds after his four paws were on the ground, Duffy, a 7-year-old mixed breed dog, snuggled up to Buddy and Darla Cram, seeming to realize he was now in safe hands. Duffy, courtesy of Pilots N Paws pilot Tom Autrey, is now at Ironstone Lane Rescue and Stables in Troutman and in the capable hands of the Crams, who operate Ironstone. But Duffy’s road to Ironstone was not a simple or quick one. Born in the Bahamas, Duffy’s owner let the dog roam the streets. In the course of his young life, Duffy, born deaf, has been hit by a car and dragged, which resulted in injuries to a rear leg and his underside; suffered an eye infection that led to the removal of that eye; and is Ehrlichia positive, Darla Cram said. He repeatedly found himself in a shelter in the Bahamas due to his deafness and the owner’s tendency to let him roam. He was sent home with his owner on numerous occasions, but, recently, the shelter convinced the owners it was best for Duffy’s safety, to relinquish ownership. Catahoula Rescue of the Southeast became involved in his case, and that led to contact with the Crams. The Crams readily agreed to take Duffy in, work to improve his overall health, in the hopes of finding the perfect home for him and other special needs dog.
