Background:

Bhutanese refugees are from UN refugee camps in Nepal that were established when they were expelled from their country about 20 years ago. The US recently agreed to accept 60,000 of the refugees. A large number of them arrived in Atlanta (around 2000). Few hundreds of families are here now and we are expecting more by the end of the year. Adjusting to the US is a huge challenge for these folks. For the first time in roughly 20 years they are expected to become self-sufficient --- working, cooking, cleaning, etc. For many of them the inability to communicate in English hinders their success. But you can help.


About Us:


"Get Inspired Atlanta" is the internship program of Sewa USA (Atlanta), focused on assisting Bhutanese refugees settle into productive lives in the US.

Sewa International USA is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with an international presence. We are a non-government organization with over 25 years of experience working together to serve humanity by helping victims regardless of caste, class, creed, color or religion. Our staff is composed primarily of dedicated volunteers, heralding from all sections of the community which helps us keep our overhead cost to a minimum.


NOTE: This is an UNPAID internship. However, we help with volunteer hours

Must work a minimum 20 - 25 hours/week Must come to the office at least 3-4 days/week
