Change Lives: Be an Adult Literacy Tutor

ORGANIZATION: Placer County Library - Rocklin Library

Position Overview: This is an opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of adults whose limited literacy is a challenge in their everyday life. See how rewarding the experience can be. The goal of the tutoring program is to create an opportunity for individuals to improve their reading, writing, basic math, computer skills, or learn English as a second language by working one-on-one with a tutor.

Responsibilities:

  • Tutor one learner 1-2 times each week for 1.5 hour sessions in one of Placer County Library’s 11 branches

  • Submit monthly time logs

  • Coordinate with literacy staff

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently and clearly

  • Possess patience, flexibility, and excellent oral communication skills

  • Fingerprint clearance is required

  • Age 18 or older

  • Bilingual is a plus, but not required

Training Provided:

  • Tutor Training- 3 hours

  • All materials provided free of charge

  • Individual assistance from literacy staff is available
