Our Mission "To help those in need to transform their lives by providing food, crisis care, opportunities for education and employment, and a hand up to families, individuals and children who are fighting to break the cycle of poverty." History In 2001, Scott George had a sudden realization as he drove home through some of the most impoverished neighborhoods in Orlando. This inspired him do something, to help break the cycle of poverty, provide hope to those that struggle and elevate the foundation of his community. Pastor Scott and his wife Tammi put everything they had into making that vision a reality and the Destiny Foundation was born. Meanwhile, Austin Hunt and his wife Ginny were experiencing their own journey of faith. Both Austin and Ginny had experienced the realities of growing up in homes that struggled financially. It was this journey through life’s challenges that gave them the passion to help those needing a compassionate hand to guide them to a future of hope and stability. And so, in 2003 the Hunt’s founded Harvest Food & Outreach Center in the Treasure Coast of Florida. In the Fall of 2009, Austin and Scott joined forces in an effort to provide more services to a greater number of families, children and individuals struggling under the pressure of the recent economic firestorm. In October 2009 with the support of parent entity, Kingdom Harvest, Scott George founded a new organization, Community Food & Outreach Center, to provide education, food and hope in Central Florida. About United Against Poverty

Location:

150 West Michigan St., Orlando, FL 32806, US

Mission Statement

To help those in need to transform their lives by providing food, crisis care, opportunities for education and employment, and a hand up to families , individuals and children who are fighting to break the cycle of poverty

Description

United Against Poverty is the only national organization to provide families with both emergency food supplies and the opportunity to obtain highly subsidized groceries, including hygiene products, six days a week. We provide a comprehensive approach to fight and reduce long-term, poverty related hunger. Additionally, our Passport Out of Poverty model is a holistic, multi-pronged approach that breaks the cycle of poverty through:

  • Offering immediate hunger relief
  • Stabilizing crisis situations
  • Multiplying client purchasing power for food & hygiene items
  • Restoring dignity, self-respect, and a sense of personal responsibility
  • Establishing self sufficiency

Our organization is not affiliated with any religion or faith-based organization. However, those who work here do feel called to this type of mission-based vocation and our founders have embraced a long-term commitment to help families break the cycle of poverty. The United Against Poverty model is unique in that it requires clients to make a contribution of some sort such as attending classes, participating in programs, contributing a percentage of the cost of food or volunteering. We provide ongoing support and establish ongoing relationships with clients. It is the guiding principle of our leadership that people living in poverty do not need empty handouts, but a program that offers a comprehensive hand-up towards a new future.
