Mission Statement

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

Description

The Salvation Army's Winston-Salem Area Command serves Forsyth, Davie, Stokes and Yadkin Counties and offers a number of services and programs.

Emergency Shelter. The Salvation Army Emergency Shelter is the only shelter in Forsyth County serving families and single women. The shelter serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, provides housing referrals and transportation. Full service case management is available to all residents.

Food. Emergency food boxes are available by appointment. A community breakfast is served 365 days of the year. Eligibility is needs-based, applications are required. We also have a food pantry.

Residential Re-Entry Center (formerly Community Corrections Center). The Residential Re-Entry program is a work release program for offenders referred by the Bureau of Prisons. Applicants will undergo an interview and orientation process.

Christmas Assistance.The Salvation Army, with the help of the community, provides toys, clothes and food for those who would otherwise go without.

Emergency Disaster Services. The goals of The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services are to minister through material support, physical comfort, emotional comfort and spiritual comfort. The Salvation Army provides food, clothing, shelter and other basic survival needs to victims of disasters (weather, fire, etc.). Disaster Services also supports emergency personnel with food and hydration.

Boys & Girls Clubs. The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs offer a safe place for kids, provide quality after-school and summer programming designed to enable all young people, especially those in the most need, to reach their full potential and help them to become productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Salvation Army in Winston-Salem operates Boys and Girls Clubs at two locations: The Ken Carlson Boys & Girls Club at 2100 Reynolds Park Road and The International Boys and Girls Club at 2850 New Walkertown Road.

Academy of Music & Arts. The Salvation Army Winston-Salem Academy of Music and Arts is an intensive after-school program for young people wishing to develop their musical talent. The Academy of Music and Arts is open to any students ages 8 through 18. All students of the Academy of Music and Arts receive instruction in brass band and an elective. Brass Band - Students learn to play one of the following instruments: cornet/trumpet, alto horn, baritone, euphonium, tuba, or percussion. These are the instruments found in a typical Salvation Army band (which are modeled after traditional British brass bands). Students are placed in one of three bands according to their ability, from beginners to advanced. Elective - Students are placed in one of the following classes: Guitar, Piano, Drumline, or World of Music. All classes have limited space, and if necessary, an audition will be given.

Family Thrift Store. Our store accepts donations from the public and re-sell these items at affordable prices. All proceeds generated from sales at our store benefit local Salvation Army programs.

The Salvation Army Winston-Salem Area Command operates three Corps Community Centers providing Sunday Services in three languages. In addition a number of after-school programs and programs for all ages are offered.

Washington Park Corps (Citadel) - Worship Services are in English, programs for all ages.

International Corps - Worship Services in Spanish, ESL programs and after-school programs.

Kernersville Corps - Worship Services in Korean, ESL programs and after-school programs.
