Alleviate hunger among the poor and elderly and to glean surplus foods, at low or no cost, from every available source, for distribution among the needy members and other charitable organizations in a fair and equitable manner.
Description
Volunteers, in refrigerated trucks, pick up surplus food from grocery stores and reclamation centers; and gather produce from orchards, farmers' fields and individuals' yards. Food is transported to our warehouse where it is sorted and prepared for distribution through over 130 non-profit charities. Last year, Senior Gleaners distributed over 8.3 million pounds of emergency food to approximately 108,000 people of all ages in 12 Northern California counties.
