Position Description:
The Copy Editor reviews and rewrites training program documents. Documents may include instructor and participant manuals, draft storyboards, course fact sheets, intranet content and internal communications. The copy editor may also be asked to conform documents to established templates, and to Red Cross brand and style guidelines.
Responsibilities:
- Reviews documentation for correct grammar, style and formatting guidelines
- Ensures that documents are error-free and formatted in a consistent manner at various stages of production
- Communicates with Training & Development team members, subject matter experts and others to ensure that documents are edited and updated according to project guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (English, Journalism, Communication) strongly preferred.
- Minimum 5 years related work experience.
- Solid writing and copy editing skills.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office (2007) Suite.
- Working familiarity with the Associated Press, Chicago Manual of Style or similar
- Experience working with MS Word document templates and formatting features (preferred)
- Knowledge of American Red Cross programs & services, including Disaster Cycle Services (preferred)

Description
The national headquarters of the American Red Cross provides assistance with shaping and leading the organization in our mission and strategic plan. National Headquarters also assists with technical guidance to the many Red Cross units, such as Chapters, Armed Forces Emergency Services Stations and Blood Services regions. These units are responsible for the direct service to the community including disaster response and preparedness, messaging to Armed Forces military and their families, collecting and delivering blood products, teaching health and safety skills and helping reunite families through our international services.
