Help lead refugee kids in fun activities this summer! Our Youth and Family Services program aims to help serve refugee kids primarily from Burma, Bhuatn, and Iraq. Throughout the school year, we hold After School programming, which changes into the Summer Program when school lets out. Interns will work side-by-side with our staff. The program will run for about 6 weeks in June-July, but the internship will be from ~end of April-August.
Responsibilities include:
- Help facilitate daily summer program activities with high energy and positivity.
- Offer staff support for program issues and secure resources for educational enhancement.
- Facilitate outreach between refugee youth, their peers, and the community.
- Develop curriculum for prevention education program.
- Collaborate effectively with other staff to form a cohesive leadership team for youth.
- Coordinate data collection for monthly reports to remain in compliance with funding requirements.
- Assist with escorting students from meeting locations to Summer Program locations and to their homes.
- 16-40 hours per week availability (including some evening hours), minimum summer-long commitment.

Description
Refugee & Immigrant Community Services (RICS) partners with refugees, asylees, immigrants and survivors of trafficking to address their needs by connecting them to their new community, providing education and employment services, and the help they need to succeed in their new country. RICS annually resettles more than 150 individuals in Chicago from places like Afghanistan, Burma, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Iraq, Sudan, Ukraine, and Syria. RICS serves an additional 500 refugees through a variety of services including cultural orientation, adjustment counseling, employment, job readiness and placement services, as well as medical case management, family literacy, and English language training for adults.
