Our small non-profit's Food Pantry is in need a great team of volunteers to help us carry out our vision! Our food pantry recently evolved into a Fresh Choice Food Pantry. We're adopted a supermarket model that allows patrons to choose what food they bring home to their families. Families are given a certain amount of pantry credit to shop with (no real money involved).
Our food is organized on shelves like a grocery store, items are "priced", and we even have shopping carts! There are a variety of ways to get involved. Find the role that best suits you!
- Registration Record-Keeper (assist with data entry and record keeping behind-the-scenes)
- Shopper Assistant (guide the patrons through the shopping experience)
- Pantry Greeter and Check-in clerk
- Shelf-Stocker ("pricing", re-stocking, and inventory)
- Food Drive Coordinators (use your network and people skills to coordinate targeted food drives)
- Pantry Nutritionist (include quick tips for healthy eating, help plan and implement health classes, etc)
Some roles occur during pantry operation hours (Mondays, 8:15am-12pm) or on Wednesdays when we do paperwork and prepare for the following Monday, typically somewhere between 1pm-5pm.

Mission Statement
Our Mission Community Center at Visitation (CCV), guided by the strength and resilience of our neighbors, provides a welcoming community space for Kensington residents to build meaningful connections and access resources to improve the quality of life in the neighborhood. We do this by celebrating and growing the community through regularly scheduled events such as community dinners, holiday festivals and educational workshops. Through the input of our community, we offer quality resources such as healthy food, tutoring, professional development training and recreational activities. Lastly, we strive to collaborate with local partners to streamline access to and avoid duplication of services.
Description
The Community Center at Visitation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia. We specialize in working together with our community in providing support and access to educational and social opportunities in addition to wellness programs and resources to promote a mentally and physically healthier population. Together, we will be able to provide the appropriate and necessary tools for our community so that we can collectively learn new skills that will improve our lives and the lives of others around us. In doing so, we believe that we will not only inspire positive change in the community, but that our collaborative efforts will bring a shared sense of respect, belonging, and love to Kensington: our home.
