Fit Kids Class
Making fitness fun at Fit Kids class!

Our mission is to provide structured, physical activity programs for underserved children to build the foundation for a healthy, active life.

At Fit Kids, we believe physical activity is an essential component of every child’s healthy development. Our goal is to make fitness fun and help kids build essential fitness skills such as strength, power and agility as well as basic movement and motor skills such as hand eye coordination, running and throwing. Through a combination of structured fitness and motor skill activities, the Fit Kids program helps kids build the foundation for a healthy, active life.

We are looking to hire enthusiastic and reliable coaches to implement our program at our 3 sites. Classes are two hours long and meet 4 times a week over the academic school year.

Class times are after school and range from 3:30-5:30PM. There may be an occasional change in time due to school events. Coaches will be notified ahead of time.

Description

In January 2011, Fit Kids was founded to bring structured physical activity programs to underserved elementary school children in the Ravenswood City School District in East Palo Alto, CA. Over 60% of children in the Ravenswood City School District are considered unfit by the California Physical Fitness Test, compared to approximately 30% in San Mateo County overall, and one in three children in the Ravenswood City School District is overweight according to the California Physical Fitness Test. Unlike their peers in neighboring higher-income communities, these children did not have safe parks to play in, meaningful PE programs in school, and organized after-school sports programs to help keep them fit, active and healthy. To address this alarming opportunity gap in our local communities and empower children to adopt a physically active lifestyle, Fit Kids began offering free after school fitness programs to these underserved children. We believe every child deserves meaningful opportunities to be active and our mission is to provide structured, physical activity programs for underserved children to build the foundation for a healthy, active life.
